Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried navy beans rinsed and sorted
  • 8 cups Water
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 Carrots sliced
  • 2 Celery stalks sliced
  • 1 Ham hock
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper to taste

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse and sort the navy beans. Place them in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let sit for 1 hour. Drain and rinse the beans.
  2. 2. In the same pot, add the soaked beans, 8 cups of water, chopped onion, minced garlic, sliced carrots, sliced celery, and ham hock.
  3. 3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until beans are tender. Stir occasionally.
  4. 4. Remove the ham hock, chop the meat, and return it to the pot. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot.
