Tamales Recipe

Ingredients 

Masa Dough

  • 2 cups Masa Harina
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth
  • ½ cup Lard or vegetable shortening

Filling

  • 2 cups Shredded Chicken
  • 1 cup Red Salsa
  • 12 pieces Corn Husks soaked in water

Instructions 

  1. Soak the corn husks in warm water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine masa harina, chicken broth, and lard. Mix until smooth.
  3. Spread a thin layer of masa dough on each corn husk.
  4. Add a spoonful of shredded chicken and red salsa in the center of the masa.
  5. Fold the sides of the husk and then fold the bottom up. Tie with a strip of husk if needed.
  6. Place tamales in a steamer and steam for about 1.5 to 2 hours.
  7. Let tamales cool slightly before serving.
